Sometimes creative projects start in the notes; shout to
for putting the idea in my head. The inspo:
The materials:
What I did:
1. Googled “free envelope template” and grabbed the first download I liked that was actually free. This one.
2. Printed the template out, taped it up to my window, and traced it onto the backside. (I wanted a guideline for where to put my collage while still maintaining the clean lines of the printout for cutting later on.)
3. Got to work gluing down the biggest pieces of scrap paper, I covered the full template and then kept adding until it looked “good.” At one point, the design invoked a certain politician’s combover, and I had to go back in and cover that up.
4. Held the template up to the light to check for gaps and filled those in with tiny pieces. (I have selective perfectionism.)
5. Flipped the collage over and cut it out using the printed guidelines.
6. Scored, folded, and glued down the flaps. Then I let it dry under a heavy book.
7. Filled it up with the rest of the trash that would fit.
That said, if you’d like to support my art and writing, you can do so via my Ko-fi account. Thank you for being here and please consider tagging me if I’ve inspired you to make something. I’d love to see what you make!
Awesome art and thanks for the shoutout! I’m glad I could help in any small way to inspire such creativity!
In turn, I would say you inspired me to collect my scraps and try the same! Maybe keep your eyes peeled for that 👀
The note came from a much larger post I made on Substack a couple months ago, how to turn any trash into art!
