"the earth tilts to its fresh desire" and "footsteps melt back into the underbrush" are my two favourite lines, so good!!!!! tilt and melt are two excellent verbs and they have that nice sound similarity too (i forget the technical term, my brain is in hibernation, but you get me)
i think assonance is the word i was thinking of!! i would bet that subconsciously you did recognise the similarity, and that’s part of why those words felt right to use
